Recently I discovered with the help of a fellow MARS operator, Ed Franks AZC1. AAR6BK, a program that will prove to be indispensable in my daily operations.

As you already know I am the Zone 1 Reporter. While I am not married, at least in the conventional sense and have no children I still feel like I have a lot in common with those of you that have chosen to be married. You see, I am married to my Word Processor. But recently we (Microsoft Works and myself) hit an impasse and it's over. After a very short court battle, since it was an uncontested divorce, and an out of court settlement we have split. However, do not feel too sorry for me as I am not alone. I have recently met a new lover, called Open Office 2.2.

This fantastic piece of software will cure what ails you for years to come. Similar to using digital modes of communications, where we all have our favorite, Open Office will let you write your documents in the word processor that comes in this suite of office programs and save it into almost any format you would want to. Does Dennis, AAM6TX, use Word, while Dave, AAA6TX, uses Word Perfect, while your Zone Coordinator likes to receive things in a PDF format? Well now you can satisfy them all!

Open Office, which contains a Word Processor, a Spreadsheet program, a Presentation program similar to Power Point, a Drawing program, a math program and a Database program, can save your files in several different formats. Want to make it a Word Document, or a Word Perfect document, a PDF file, or how about an HTML document? Now you can.

Check into http://www.openoffice.org and download a great program. But be prepared for the sticker shock at the cost of the program, it's FREE! Yes, absolutely FREE!
